Bellwether Garden Supply Assignments

This page summarizes the assignments we will cover during the first three classes devoted to Peachtree.

Chapter 1
  • Complete all activities described in Chapter 1, pp. 3 - 38.
  • Complete Exercise 1-2.
  • Make a small change to Bellwether's address:
    • Select Maintain | Company Information.
    • Change the address to:
      • Bellwether Garden Supply
      • c/o: Your Name
      • 1505 Pavilion Place, Suite C
      • Norcross, GA 30093-3203
  • Once you are added as an employee, print an employee list by selecting
    Reports | Payroll | Employee List

Chapter 2

  • Complete all activities described in Chapter 2, pp. 47 - 71.
  • Complete Exercises 2-1 and 2-2.
    • In Exercise 2-2, you can skip step #4, related to printing all the vendor ledgers.

Additional Assignment - Chapter 1 & 2

  • Enter your name as a new vendor. Be sure to complete the Vendor ID, Name, Address, and City, ST, and Zip fields. Accept the default values in other areas.
  • Using yourself as vendor, create and print a purchase order for the following items. Quantities ordered follow the @ symbol. Accept the default date of March 15, 2003. Accept the default prices. Printing can be done in the "PO Plain" style.
    • BOOK-11000 @ 25.
    • BOOK-11010 @ 20.
    • BOOK-11020 @ 15.
    • BOOK-11030 @ 10.
  • The above order is received in full on March 20. Record the receipt of the merchandise. For the invoice number, use your student ID number.
  • The above order is paid in full on March 28. The amount paid should reflect the 2% discount. Print the check. Use the "AP Preprint 1 Stub" format.
  • Using yourself as vendor, post a cash purchase for 100 of the following item, SEVG-33270. Reduce the unit price from $.45 to $.44. Print the check for this purchase. Use the "AP Preprint 1 Stub" format.
  • Print a ledger for your vendor account for the month of March 2003.
    • From the menu, select Reports | Accounts Payable.
    • Scroll down and click on vendor ledgers.
    • Once the ledger appears, click on the options button. In the Vendor ID filter, under From and To, enter your vendor ID number. The dates should be March 1, 2003 to March 31, 2003. Click OK.
    • The ledger that appears should be only for your account and should reflect the above purchasing activities. Print this ledger.
  • Finally, list and explain the journal entries created by Peachtree for the transactions listed on the vendor ledger. Also, explain why the creation of the purchase order does not appear on the vendor ledger. Take your time. Do a good job. A significant part of your grade depends upon the quality of your written answer.

Due on Feb 27:

  • Employee list with your name and Mallory Pearce added.
  • PO 101
  • Checks 10211 and 10212
  • PO, two checks, and vendor ledger created in the "additional exercise."
  • Answer to journal entry questions about the transactions posted to the vendor ledger.
  • NOTE: A significant part of your grade depends upon the written answer. Take your time and do a good job.


Chapter 3
  • Complete all activities described in Chapter 3, pp. 81 - 116.
  • Complete Exercises 3-1 and 3-2.
    • In exercise 3-2, you can skip step 3, printing customer ledgers.

Chapter 4

  • Complete all activities described in Chapter 4, pp. 125 - 140.
  • Complete Exercises 4-1 and 4-2.
  • Explain the journal entries that are made for the payroll check in Exercise 4-2. Give account numbers, names and amounts. Explain why Peachtree is debiting or crediting these accounts. Take your time. Do a good job. A significant part of your grade depends upon your written answers.

Additional Assignment - Chapter 3 & 4

  • Enter your name as a new customer. In addition to ID, be sure to fill in the name, address, and City, ST, Zip fields.
    • Change credit terms to 3/10, net 45.
    • Enter sales tax code as GACOBB.
  • Using yourself as customer, create and print a sales order for the following items. Quantities ordered follow the @ symbol. Use the default date of 3/15/03.
    • AVRY-10110 @ 5
    • FERT-16140 @ 5
    • SEGR-32100 @ 3
    • TOOL-35300 @ 1
  • The goods are shipped on March 20 for the quantities ordered. Create and print a sales invoice. For printing, you can use the "invoice plain" style.
  • On March 29, payment is received for the above sale. The payment reflects the 3% early payment discount. Post the payment to the system. Use your student ID number for the reference. (In reality, the reference would be the number on the customer's check.)
  • Using yourself as customer, post a cash sale for the following one item, EQLW-14140. The date should be March 30. The listed unit price is $299.99. Compute a new price that is 3% lower and enter the discounted price. Use the first three digits of your social security number for the reference.
  • Print a ledger for your customer account for the month of March 2003.
    • From the menu, select Reports | Accounts Receivable.
    • Scroll down and click on customer ledgers.
    • Once the ledger appears, click on the options button. In the Customer ID filter, under From and To, enter your customer ID number. The dates should be March 1, 2003 to March 31, 2003. Click OK.
    • The ledger that appears should be only for your account and should reflect the above sales activities. Print this ledger.
  • Finally, list and explain the journal entries created by Peachtree for the transactions listed on the customer ledger. Also, explain why the creation of the sales order does not appear on the vendor ledger.
Due on March 1:
  • Sales order 10319.
  • Invoices 101 & 102.
  • Paychecks 2064, 2065, 2066, & 2067.
  • Explanation for payroll journal entry discussed above.
  • Answer to journal entry questions about the transactions posted to the customer ledger.
  • NOTE: A significant part of your grade depends upon your written answers. Take your time and do a good job.


Chapter 5
  • Complete all activities described in Chapter 5, pp. 149 - 173.
  • Complete Exercises 5-1 and 5-2.
  • After completing exercise 5-2, in Peachtree, go to Reports | Inventory. Explain the differences and similiarities between the Inventory Unit Acivity Report and the Inventory Valuation Report.

Chapter 7

  • Complete all activities described in Chapter 7, pp. 201 - 218.
  • Review the balance sheet you have printed as of March 31, 2003. For each of the following categories of accounts, list two accounts that are likely to require a month end adjustment. Describe the type of adjusting entry that should be made.
    • Current assets.
    • Property and equipment.
    • Other assets.
    • Current liabilities.
    • Long-term liabilities (list only one account.)
  • Complete Exercises 7-1 and 7-2. Do these exercises only after you have completed 5-1 & 5-2.
  • Important - The reports that you print may not be the same as those in the book since we did not do chapter 6 and also added some additional exercises.

Due on March 6:

  • Comparison of Inventory Unit Activity and Inventory Valuation Reports.
    • A significant part of your grade depends upon your written answers. Take your time and do a good job.
  • Balance sheet.
  • Income statement.
  • Gross profit by department report.
  • Statement of cash flow.
  • Statement of changes in financial position.
  • Answers to questions 7-1 and 7-2.
  • List of accounts requiring adjustments and types of adjustments that typically should be made. Take your time. Do a good job. A significant part of your grade depends upon your written answers.
  • Copy of backup disks for Bellwether as of completion of chapter 7.
