The following is Ray's solution.

Note that he did not assume that the King's and Queen's Roads (labeled KR and QR in the diagram below) intersect at right angels. The big surprise is that the point at which the line through the two magic points (labeled mp1 and mp2) intersects the Queen's Road does not depend on the location of the maple and pine trees (M and P) but only on that of the elm and spruce (E and S). Ray used the symbolic algebra capabilities of the TI-92 calculator, but (with a strong stomach) the algebra is workable by hand.
