Congratulations to this week's winner,
Brian Bergdall

Other correct solutions were submitted by Kenny Albright, Mundia Mubyana, Deborah Hinkley,Ray Kremer.  Correct solutions came from Philippe Fondanaiche, Jens Voss, Francesc Suñol, Yves Thiry.

There were several possible ways of arriving at the volume, but all involved placing a three dimensional coordinate system on the figure in some way and using integration. Brian Bergdall placed the coordinates as on the left.  The amount of wood cut out of one of the slices is the same as the volume of the solid which lies under the plane z = y and over the semicircle of radius one in the upper half plane.  The volume is therefore
which is a straighforward integral with value 2/3. The total volume is 4/3 cubic feet.
